#256947 So I think I'm gonna do a mini me but want to get your guys opinion. I have a 92 CX and it has the slowwwww d15b8. I would like to put either a z6 or y8 head on it. I'm curious about what kind of power gains I might get. I've heard some people say I'll only get 20 more HP and some people say I'll be pushing 130 HP. I don't know, I'm feeling that it will be somewhere in between but I don't know. Any ideas?

#266602 Well, if I'm not mistaken, your D15B8 only has 8 valves. After swapping in a D16Z6 or Y8, you will be doubling your valves, essentially doubling your intake/exhaust (in the head, at least), giving you a pretty good HP boost.
You will definitely break the 100HP mark, yours is pumping out about 72 HP right now.. (same with mine, D13B2)

Good luck with the swap and tell us how it goes!

#266605 its the same as doing one of those heads onto a d15b7. the only difference is like the other guy said. b8 had 8 valves, b7 is 16.
would be around 115-130 at crank level. cannot put an acual hp number on any car due to each motor being different, add mods, brands of parts, mileage, how good of health the car is in.....etc

#266754 check first.
d15b8's came with both 8 and 16 valve heads.
the pistons for the 8 valve heads only had 2 valve reliefs.
for an mini-me that would be a problem.

I have been told and read both yes and no on that
I've seen a d15b8 motor apart and it had the pistons with the relief valves for 16 valves, but maybe some did not.

I'd pull a spark plug out and shine a flash light in the hole to be sure. You might have to crank the motor by hand a little to get a full look at the top of the piston.
