D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By tatan1106eg
#258340 Ok, so after replacing the head gasket and having the head done at a machine shop my d15b7 continued to smoke. I am over with this engine since I've put alot of money into fixing it this year. Right now I am saving to get a jdm engine to have a low miles engine that will last for long time without asking me to put money into it. My actual engine had been treated miserably and Im tired of fixing it.
Now my question is...I want to keep my stock tranny but maybe get a more powerful engine like a d15 dohc vtech, or a d16 vtech... What engine would fit with my tranny?

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated

#258341 if your sticking to single cam any 92-00 civic, get an ex/si from 92-95 or from a civic ex 96-00 shorter gear ratio :thumb:

92-95 EX/Si will be stamped A000 dx,lx, and other ones are B000 correct me if i'm wrong ill check my lx tranny in a bit :)

#258343 Ok man, you need too do more research. First off its not a kids computer, its Vtec. Second off, there is no DOHC d15. Most D-series will bolt up too your current trans, but you would be much better off switching too a EX trans for the shorter gearing. If you dont do it now, you'll wish you did later.

#258351 whoops i misread the question i thought u were asking about tranny..but if you want to keep it simple and have vtec stick with jdm d15b or usdm d16z6 i'm going with the jdm d15b :thumb: and yeah i would stick with the EX trans but if your on a budget just use your current tranny your lucky i have an automatic currently converting to manual  :woot:

Correction...I never talked about a kids computer and I know exactly what a Vtec is and what it does....If you do some research there is actually a jdm engine which is d15b vtec DOHC. I can get it at my local jdm importer.

#258466 For he rest of you, thanks for your help. I know the Si/Ex trannys will give me a faster response for the shorter ratio but unfortunately I do not have funds to afford a complete swap.

#258467 By the way. Now that I know any d-series engine will bolt on to my tranny, what engine do you guys suggest I should get?

Actually you were talking about a VTECH, which is a kids computer . I think D-mon is right, your probably referring too the dual solenoid, 3 stage vtec obd2 d15b. The ONLY DOHC d-series. Is the DOHC zc which is a 1.6.

Bang for.the buck is a d15b vtec. They run good and are dependable, if you wouldn't.mind to send some more a sohc vtec zc is.good I like mine.... or if you could find a d16z6 local for a good.price and good miles I would consider.that as well.

#258587 Im undecided. I tried contacting the Jdm importer but had no success. So I will pass by their warehouse tomorrow or thursday. I think I'll go for the d15b Vtec or maybe a d16z6...It all depends on the price.
By the way, around how much is it to get a mechanic to swap the engines?

#258588 mucho dinero. With the money you pay a shop to do it, you could have that tranny. :hehe:
