D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By stussy_legend
#258653 hi everyone, just finish doing an engine swap(D15B into Lsi). everything hook up correctly as far as i concern. all the electrical stuff work, fuel pump work. battery checked, between 12.7 to 12.8 v. got sparks, main relay clicks, it does crank, just doesnt wanna fire up. its nth to do with water, does it?! coz i havent put any water in it yet, i need to flush the system, but b4 that, i need to get it running.

**updates:
just had a look under the dash just now, found out there are two plugs not connected to anything. the green one i am pretty sure it wasnt connected to anything before. but the orange one, its part of the dash loom and locates near the dash fuse box, any idea what it is?!

i am clueless.

the car that i took the engine and ecu off had aftermarket immoblizer, would that be the ECU problem?!

#258667 I posted this a while back as, swap or not, this is becoming more and more common in EG's as they are aging and is a PITA to diagnose... it should be stickied if you think its useful? :thumb:

this is indeed help me quite a bit, but i aint good at testing voltages, and i dun have the tools. to check all these things, i will have to let the garage boyz to do it for me.

i am worrying the dizzy has gone bad, because when i had this engine on my other car, it was hard to start first time, i had to pump a bit the gas pedal to start it.

also, just had a lil talk with my mates, he said it could be low compression or tming is off?! as i didnt remove the whole engine, it was a mini-me swap actually

#258672 oh, not good... you said you have spark, if thats the case id say the dizzy is good. If the dizzy wasnt touched when the head was off the engine , maybe the head was set wrong when put on your bottom end, there is 2 top dead centre's... (Im not certain you can even do that but Im trying to think outside the box lol)

also, are your leads 100% in the correct order??
By stussy_legend
#258674 yeah, the lead should be in correct order, as i didnt unplug it from the cap while it's off the head, and each lead has different length, so they cant be in wrong order?!

well, it was my first time to do a timing belt, i followed the manual to set the TDC on the cam and crank shaft. but i am not 100% sure if i done it correctly.

so when the cam gear is at TDC, the white line on the crank pulley should line up with the thing on the timng belt cover, is that correct?!

that is correct, but a lot of people have trouble getting the cam gear to tdc.
i like to spin the crank ccw a few times and see if they still line up.

#259008 ok guys, found out the problem now, towed it down to the mechanic place today, 2 hours later, they called me saying that the cam gear is actually 180 degree out. they swapped #2 & #3 plugs, and it runs fine now.

the plan is i am prob. taking the car back to my house to redo the timing belt, but how can i rotate it back to its original position without value hitting psitons?!

** just to make things more clear, the cam spins twice as fast as the crank, so my cam is actually one revolution beyond/behind of what it should be

#259051 thats what I meant by 2 TDC's, one for combustion and one for exhaust... I dont know of a way to correct that without lifting the head
By stussy_legend
#259062 hmm......i dunno what the garage has done to the engine, apparently they swapped #2 & 3 lead, and replace one of the lead, and its running perfectly fine now, apart from flat spot at low rpm, but been told i need new spark plugs.

just wondering, how do i know if the cam is at the right TDC?!
