#261679 Whats up guys like what the title state will a y5 vtec-e head be a good combo for a b7? Just wondering cause a friend of mine is wanting to do a swap but he has a y5 head laying around. So im just wondering if it will work or is there anything else that have to be done or is it just a bolt on process.

#261694 y5 vtec-e is a different type of vtec than y8 or z6. It's meant for fuel economy and will run in a lean burn mode under certain throttle conditons to achieve better mpg. Only draw back is that you would need the d16y5 ecu to get these benefits from the head and it's an OBD2 ecu and our cars are OBD1.
Plus the vtec is not the 'popping' performance vtec @ 5000 rpm but a much more subtle vtec around 3000 rpm. THose heads don't have much top end performance, they are designed to be efficient under your average driving conditions.
They do have lower friction roller rockers though and people have experimented with them and had some good #'s. But you better be good at tuning, or love wiring if you're going to attempt to run it as an obd2 setup.

#261764 Ahh nice info teal!! I thought it's was just a basic bolt on process with the other mini me. I guess it's bad news for my friend his all excited and I thought I could use the p28 ecu... Thanks for the great info
