D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#262586 First post on the great civic-eg forum. Heres my dilema, i have a 92 hatch d15 automatic with a bad crank (crank pulley key keeps falling out). Had a spare engine and figured it would be easier to swap the spare engine in. Everything was going fine until i tried to mate the spare engine to the original transmission. Upon inspection i noticed the transmission has a metal guide and the block has a metal guide in the exact same place stopping the block and transmission from being bolted together. My question is how do i safely remove this guide or guides safely. Will post pictures soon

#262588 those are called dowels. Just take one out of either the motor or tranny, your choice, just leave one in place though. Use a pair of pliers and just pull them out.

#262609 Plyers or channellocks can pull it out however it wont be reusable. if you move it back and forth you can coax it to come out and it should be reusable then.

Edit: take the one out of the Engine block, its egg'd so it wont go into the transmission. Just hook onto it with plyers and move it back and forth it will come out.
