#290208 I'm giving up on finding a clean rust free integra sedan on Ohio. Time to look west/south.
I've found some and am comparing buying a plane ticket to buy the car and drive it home OR pay the seller online (paypal) and pay to have the car shipped back home.

buying in person:
- Plane ticket = $$$
- long road trip home = 2 days
- plus expenses= fuel, food, hotel.

buying online :
- don't get to see the car in person first
- pay a shipper to bring the car to me = prob $1k max

Question for anyone who has bought a car & had it shipped:
- How does the transfer of the title work since buyer & seller are not able to go to a notary together?

#290222 ok ive actually had experience through family with this ill start off with shipping
i dont knwo exactly how much it cost but make sure the guys reputable we had someone who had a great service but ended up bringing my aunts 1950 willys jeepster in a condition that wasnt how it was when it was loaded in chicago. looked like they had fun with it and such

also ive bought cars from PA which needs a notary however my NY dosent need a notary (state still fucking blows) really its whatever laws so on apply to the title origins like if i had a ny title i dont need a notary to sell it no matter where i sell it too etc etc its mainly state laws and if i were you and it wasnt too far away or there was a possibility of having a co driver or find someone willing to allow you to drive a car down to the state where they need it same area where your getting your car and you drive yours back. that sorta thing all depends on how much time you have and money really but with me i tend to stick towards where i know my family lives this way i can travel there or something and make sure the cars good and take the car back with or something

#290240 I've gone to other states to pick up cars. A couple of times, I trailered, and more than a few I've driven. Sometimes, I prefer driving. I find it's a good endurance test for the car. If it makes the trip, it should be good. See how much it'll take(if any) to meet you half way.

It's usually a good idea to be with the title holder when you sign the papers, just in case of issues, but where I live, that's a must.

#290282 If you do get it shipped and you know someone that you can trust in that area. Have them go and inspect the car for you and give you the feedback. Thought I would put in my .02

#290284 I remember what the shipper did to mikes car, beat the piss out of it. Just find the car you want and take a rental down or get a plane ticket.

#290287 Thanks for feedback... Unfortunately it is in North Dakota ... who lives there

It would be a 1100 mi trip home. The car appears to be well maintained but still you never know what could happen. Not having my tools and being in the middle of nowhere makes me wonder if it's worth it.

I mean people buy cars on ebay all the time. If when they get the car delivered and it's not what the seller described, can't they file a claim through paypal?

I'll look into what ND requires as far as a title transfer too. :thumb:

#290290 Ebay does not offer buyer protection on ebay motors items(except parts)

ebay buyer protection policy

You can still file a pay pal claim, after opening a dispute, but they can take 30 days to get resolved.

#290340 well could get an emergency kit as long as the timing belt and water pump and clutch or trans is in good shape and no motor knocking the main things i would grab are belts oil and coolant and a little tool kit with a 10 12 14 17 19 and phillips flat head and a good pair of pliers could also have the car serviced before you drive it that kind of thing

#290353 I would get an independent inspection before buying anything on the internet. If the seller is motivated, then he would arrange that.

#290627 Ok i'll give a little of my experience. I sold a motorcycle on ebay a few years ago. I just signed the title and then mailed it, after the buyer recieved the title we arranged a day and time for the shipping company to pick it up. It went to canada by the way, it wasn't difficult on my part. easy breezy, i would check with your local dmv and find out if you need a notary or bill of sale.

Where i live i just bring a signed title, i got my old ef from WV. got it registered in va without problem.
