stopped at the gas station tonight and came back out to the same damn starting issue again... almost 200 miles and dozens of stops without aa problem then bam... :x :x :x WTF! and no code either

changing my engine coolant tempature sensor this weekend. i bought it last weekend and didnt install it after the IAT sensor seemed to fix the problem. hopefully it helps i seriously dont know what else to do anymore

#295349 couldnt get ahold of a p28 but I do have a p06 in my garage I guess I can try it if the coolant temp sensor doesnt help at all.

speaking of which im pretty sure thats the problem cause it was idleing perfect and i unplugged the CTS and right away the revs kicked up and got sputtery. plugged it back in and went back to normal. crossin my fingers.

on a side note anyone know what this top metal tube at the top of the throttle body is for? some kinda tube supposed to go somewhere?
Image

and i was looking at my injectors and something caught my eye... i know the wires are electrical taped together:roll: but whats with the extra wire thats been cut off? my cars quite the hackjob in quite a few ways so who knows where these came from. any input on the injectors will help. someone said about injectors could be causing the pulsing revs? im going to the junkyard tomarrow to price a complete intake manifold setup with all the sensors and injectors blah blah blah. might do a Y8 manny swap

#295353 That white thing is just a plastic num that they have - not sure why it is even there :?

As long as both sets of injectors are OBD1, they'll plug right in :thumb: No need for a resistor box or anything.

#295394 heres a shot of my stock d16z6 intake manifold

Heres where that nipple off the throttle body should go.

Goes down to the charcoal canister. If you need any other pictures lmk.

#295423 Try pulling out each of your plug wires and checking if there is any oil in there. Then you might have to reseal your tappet pan and the seals around the spark plug holes. It happened to me recently.

#295487 my charcoal canister had an open end on it that wasnt hooked to anything so i ran a line from that little tube on the tb to the end on the carcoal canister. i really have no idea what its supposed to do but it only took 40 seconds to do.

changed the coolant temp sensor and now it seems to start just fine when warm but thats what it did all last week too :? so well see how it goes

#297313 well its been a few weeks and not one starting issue! :woot:

I got curious and hooked a timing light up to the car the other day and if I am looking at it right, at idle, the timing is way off. the 3 marks on the crank pulley(2 white lines and 1 red one in the middle of them) are about an inch away(toward the front of the car) from the thing on the cover they are supposed to line up with
Image

i really dont know much at all about timing and pretty much all I can find when searching google is about the cam timing lining the cam gear up and all that. i cant seem to find anything about usuing a timing light to set the timing, and more importantly which lines on the crank pulley i should be using :? :? ive read that its supposed to line up with the red line then ive read its one of the other lines i really have no idea

any info at all would help!

#297760 fixed the problem FINALLY it was... wait for it... ignition timing!!!

did ALOT of research googling and searching d-series.org and HT and got alot of info on the subject.

hooked up the timing light, jumped the service connector thingy, started her up and let her warm to op temp, loosened the dizzy bolts, and cranked the dizzy till the red mark lined up with the needle thing on the timing cover. it actually wasnt off as much as i first thought.

now she starts idles and runs PERFECT. It actually got rid of a kinda shuddering when it first starts up that I always just figured was the stiff motor mounts. but no more of that, and most importantly, no more pulsing rpm problem :woot:
