#308635 What's up guys. I have been thinking of getting a Grim Reaper tattoo on my forearm and I was just wondering if a Grim Reaper symbolizes any sort of Religion.

I am just curious because I am an Atheist and I really don't want to get anything Religious. haha

I personally think it is a way to symbolize Death and that's it. Just wanting to make sure.

Thanks in advance.

The grim reaper (or angel of death) more of a personification of death.... which every religion has it's own. So it does have connections to every religion.

But, if you want a tattoo because you think it's cool..... then do it. I have a full sleeve and love what it means to me.

#308746 Shouldn't you know or have learned about religion to know what you do/dont believe in?

To answer your question, like others have said, The Grim Reaper is the symbolic character for 'death' in general. It doesn't belong to any single religion, because many religions believe in it.

Athiests dont believe in literal personification of death, just the termination of life. So why would one choose to not believe in an entity that ends/takes life but not one that creates/gives life (god)?

#308758 Alright I will try to respond to everyone. haha

It was actually my 665th post. I replied to someone after I posted this. Haha good observation though.

I trust real evidence, so yes I side with Science and not Religion. I don't believe that the Earth is 6,000 years old and the Dinosaurs died in the Great Flood.

I know a lot about modern day Religion (studies show that Atheists know more about the Bible and other "Holy" Scriptures, which is probably the biggest reason why we don't believe in God :P).

I was thinking the tattoo should show the Grim Reaper (symbolizing Death, not an Entity) holding an hourglass flipped upside down with sand pouring into the other half to show Mortality and the fact that everyone will inevitably die.

Death and termination of life are the same thing, it's a persons personal belief on what they think happens to them after they die.

#308838 But that is what the Grim Reaper is... an entity and one of the most universally recognized ghosts/spirits EVER.

Figuratively the Grim Reaper is in the gap between life and death, basically assisting in the passage from the living world to that of the dead.
