#34777 I keep hearing this a lot lately. People keep refering to my build as such. Slapping a B16a head on a GSR short block. Sorta what Im doing. But how is this a " Poor Mans R"? The b16a head effectively lowers the already low compression of the GSR from 10:1 to about 9.7:1 or so. An ITR has a ratio of 10.6:1 for the US and 11:1 for the JDM one. So in swapping the head over you are in effect losing power and compression. How is that good? Although I am using a GSR block and B16a head, Im not sticking with GSR pistons, or the US ITRs that came in the block. Im just a lil confussed as to how this combo can be the poor mans r? redlines like a stock b16a or GSR, has lower compression that all three motors and most likely will be slower too. Whats the deal?

#34779 ITR head = B16 both are PR3 jsut the type-R with the infamous green paint are the chosen ones that are sent to get ported and polished
B18C bottom GSR and type R have the same block BUT the Cranks are different as soon as i find the the HT page on it i'll show you

#34867 I just dont see why people just dont go get a full GSR. why swap on a head that lowers the compression, just becuase its got the PR3 casting number. The Cumbustion chamber is bigger on the PR3 head, which is what lowers the compression.

#34997 Not from the numbers I have seen for stock for stock. GSR flows a bit better.

#35004 the tuner out here seemed to get better numbers out of 16 instead of 18's but if you can get either of those to get the flow of a H22 then it wouldnt matter lol

#35014 Hell, the only reason I got the B16a head was because I got a hella deal on it with the cams.

#39456 idk but i have seen personally a "poor mans R" run 14.9's consistently.

Stock GS-R block
B16 head w/ full Type R internals.
in a 93 hatch.
