#41192 ok so i decided on building a turbo kit for my car.
what's a good turbochager to build around?
it's going to be a daily driven car so i want something reliable and i'm going to be running stock internals.

#41260 i was looking to spend around $2000 for everything.
would that be enough or would i need more money?

#41269 A good consideration if you are going to do a turbo on a Daily Driver is getting a T3/T4 Kit over a T3. It takes longer to get to its spool point so down low you wont be spooling up your turbo which would be good for freeway Cruising.

On my friends car I helped* setup, he didn't have boost start spooling until 2500 or so, however @ 3500 we had full boost. When we done the owner was pumped about the car and still is his Daily Driving, which is 6-7 months later. When he had it tuned it he was making 180whp 152wtq @ 6 psi on a bone stock D16y8. He easily could have done more however he is happy @ 180.

If you look hard enough you might be able to find a t3/t4 Kit for 2000, I found some used ones for 1800 via google. the brand new ones where 3k or so though. You also need to remember you will need your car tuned before you get on it with the turbo. I dont know how much it will be to get your car tuned.

It would be best to tow your car to the tuner, if you wish to drive, you want to take off your actuator arm on your wastegate so you don't spool your turbo, If you have use an External wastegate, temporally take out its spring.

Good luck looking for your turbo parts

*The car was a "Junkyard Turbo" setup off of a 87 Turbo Mustang. I helped in getting pieces for the car and helping install the turbo and fabricate parts to get into his EK, i.e. downpipe, chargelines, welding, etc. I did not tune it, he took it to a good tuner. I would recommend the same when your done.

#41316 Even tho loads of people might disagree with me;
go get yourself a new turbokit from SSAC (like the "HOLY MOLY TSUNAMI KIT") or XS-power,
buy a set of secondhand injectors, bolt it al on, have it tuned right away, and my guess is you're under a 1,000 dollar.
You can upgrade along the way, maybe to better clamps, better turbo, better whatever, I'm sure you'll think up something to upgrade ;)

You're probably going to need another clutch tho, since the stock one will just burn up.

Be warned btw, SSAC an XSpower sell like the same stuff, and the turbo manifolds all crack eventually.
Just see to it's hung up properly, reinforced and all.
And don't mind having it rewelded a couple of times before you buy a new one.
When that time comes around, you're probably advanced enough into the world of boost, you're going to get yourself some more expensive, better stuff (like Spoolin Performance or Lovefab, manifolds that cost more then your entire turbokit and probably last forever).

A guy from Civic Club Holland (the forum were I'm at about ALL THE TIME :D ) is now driving an XS-power kit daily for about two years now, not a single problem reported that is known for XS-power, and he hasn't even blown his stock D15 (yet), putting out about 190-210hp @ crank...

#41344 treadstoneperformance.com what do you think? under 2000.00 with a little money left for a good bov, injectors and and a fuel pump but you would still need a hondata or something like it for a fmu

worse idea ever. Being from california, land of the abundancy in performance shops and what not, this kit is not even worth the money into it. $2000 for everythign is a decent amount of money. You can find used T3/T4 kits for around 1200-1500 for everything minus the tune. Depending on what you use as a base, it may be better to run a certain turbo depending on your application.

and chrono404.. being a smaller turbo has nothing to do with better freeway cruising. my T3 super 60 makes 16psi at 4200rpm and it spools around 3200rpm. It still makes 29mpg mixed. A turbo does not create boost if you are pacing your gas pedal. yes your turbo is spinning the turbine but it is generating only enough airflow as it the car had no turbo on it. The turbo just will spring to life faster if you mash on the gas while freeway cruising :)

my stock d16z6 made 228whp at 10psi on my T3 :)

#41399 Turbonetics is a good brand. The Turbo + Wastegate look good. Never heard of Treadstone. However more likely then not you wont have to replace to much down the road.

If you get that kit, You will also want to buy a Blow Off Valve(BOV) as its not included in the Kit.

I was recommending the T3/T4 as the Spool Point was higher. I was recommending this because with the T25 you will be spooling your turbo much earlier. I have friends who have stopped using T25s and went to the T3/T4 because they didn't want it to spool when they where going down the freeway. A T3 turbo will also work quite well in this setup. From a Combination of what I have read online and input from there experience, This what I will personally Recommend.

#42419 The t3/t4 is a good, solid, proven turbo. I had no problems with mine. It was very daily driver firendly. :thumb:
