Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#42652 Well Im getting close to boost because its starting to warm up a bit and Im hoping for no more big snowfalls. Anyway Im getting all my ducks in a row so things go smoothly. I have a question tho. I am going to be running a small IHI RBH5 on 6psi with dsm 450s on my z6, my question is whether or not I need to upgrade my stock fuel pump to a walbro. I am kind of tight on money but if its 100% necessary I will. I'm hoping this setup might put me in the 160-170whp range. Should I step up to the walbro or will the stocker be fine for a few months??
Thanks

#42751 Stick with stock, the stock fuel pump will accomodate a lot more power than you think.
The EG4 fuel pump has the same capacity as a DC2 one, and stock is reliable enough... don't upgrade to a Walbro unless you're going over 300-350hp at the crank.

#46636 run a 255. Your going to be over-working the fuel pump way over its limit. stock fuel pumps wont handle more than 190WHP. You are going to be over working those injectors if you don't, the duty cycle on them will be really high since its a stock pump. Also its only 80 bucks.

I'm with him its security too. If the stock pump goes on you, you could be replacing more than just the pump.

#47449 Honda builds a 20% margin into their fuel pumps. At 170hp your stock fuel pump wont be able to keep up. You could pull a fuel pump from a junked Integra, preferably a GSR. It's a direct drop in / plug n play. I would then run a heavier gauge power wire to the pump and use the stock power wire to control it with a relay.

The stock 240CC injectors are more than enough to handle 170hp. There is no good reason to change them especially considering all the added cost and complication of doing so. Honda injectors are some of the best in the industry. They are unique in that they can handle over 80% duty cycle. It's a shame that people downgrade to the DSMs without any reason. You're better off getting your stock injectors balanced and blueprinted.

Used OEM is often higher quality and more cheaply available than aftermarket parts. I've learned that a smart person with the right information can put their money to good use and spank high-dollar cars. In a short time, you'll have a smug smile etched permanently on your face.
