#42533 Hi folks, got my first car the other week, and after much research decided to go for a honda civic lsi eg4. It's a 1995 m reg, no mods, 2 pevious elderly owners with 100k on the clock, it's got some rust on the door panel and some on the rear arch, new tires, cambelt changed, 6 moths tax and 12 months MOT.

I have a few questions and it would be muchos appreciated if you could give me some answers. Ok so here goes.

How car I remove the annoying radio antenna?

Is there any way I can remove the rust without getting a full respray?

What alloys look good on eg's in your opinion? and what style do you think would suit a silver colour car?

How do a lower the car like what do I need to buy?

What general upgrades do you think I should be looking at exterior and interior? I definately don't won't to go overboard on the exterior and have what's refered to as a "ricer" or a "chavmobile" lol.

And just any general comments or advice would be cool aswell.

Thanks and here's some pics

#42548 I felt the same after I got my first civic about 9 months back!

This forum, and maybe some others, will help you decide a lot and give you lots of inspiration!

It can be overwhelming at times, all of the possibilities! I learned the hard way on some things and did them wrong first and had to do them over again

What helps immensely is just reading and observing, you will learn what you might like to do to your car and this site has lots of DIYs (Do it yourself) that are invaluable to people like us :thumb:

Can't wait to see what you decide to do!

#42592 How can I remove the annoying radio antenna?

rip it out and use body filler to fill the hole.

Is there any way I can remove the rust without getting a full respray?

Sand it down to bare metal, wet and dry techneque. Apply Krust gel (Hammerrite). Use body filler to fill holes.

What alloys look good on eg's in your opinion? and what style do you think would suit a silver colour car?

Rota SlipStreams, gunmetal?

How do you lower the car like what do I need to buy?

Suspention upgrade, i would recomment Tein Basic, if you're you want suspention at a good price.

What general upgrades do you think I should be looking at exterior and interior? I definately don't won't to go overboard on the exterior and have what's refered to as a "ricer" or a "chavmobile" lol.

Don't put lexus style lights on your car or any other cheap looking plastic shit.

But to be honest, these questions you ask are self opinion, so choice is yours.

#42630 You dont need to change a lot to make your car look good - a nice set of wheels, lower it and a lip is all you need really!

Keep your eye out for the lip from an eg vti or coupe, they cost about £15 but make a big difference!

#42663 Thanks everyone :thumb:

So far my shopping list contains

Wheels - Rota sliptream gunmetal £504.98 delivered

Lip - mugen front £175

Rust - either hammerite rust gel and primer/paint, or new door panel.

I also forgot to mention I need to replace back box, do you reckon something like this would be okay? http://www.unit-8.co.uk/acatalog/Civic_ ... Boxes.html

Lowering - either d2 or tein coilovers or spirings/shocks

Filler - for filling hole where antenna used to be.

Thanks

I'm so excited :D feels like christmas lol

#42677 Filler wont fill the hole tbh, you'd be better fibreglassing it and then using filler

The filler itself wont work on its own, also treating rust is only really a temporary fix - best option is to cut out and weld in new metal, or to buy another door in your case

#42678 I'll be having my rust cut out and new metal welded in a few weeks, I'll be sure to take pics and give you the costs :thumb:

#42744 In my opinion, get the rust fixed before you do anything. It's already looking kind of bad, and the longer you let it go it will only get worse, so it would be best to stop it now before it's terrible. All in all though it looks like a good project to start with.

#42755 TBH, if you want that hole where the antenna is done professionaly, just buy a wing, scrap yards and places have them, the wings only bolt on and off. If you are going to use filler, back it up before you do it. Use fibreglass, or weld something behind the hole to support the filler. Welding I prefer but it may damage paint work, as heat comes through. Great choice in wheels :D I love SlipStreams in black, but think the gunmetal will look the tits with your silver paint work.
