#39928 i was looking on nippon motors and seen that the z6 engine only was more expensive that the JDM D15B engine only. is this because the z6 the better motor out of the two? im just curious as to why this is?

#39929 it's pretty much the same. .1 more displacement, although the D15B has a slightly more agressive cam.
The Z6 has more aftermarket options if you are plannig a big build.

#39952 D15B Sohc VTEC uses all the same parts aftermarket wise as the D16z6. Its the crank and rods that are the main difference.

#40070 okay.. i just didnt quite understand why it would be more expensive. thanks for the info guys.

#40341 lol... what is the rod to stroke ratio?

Rod to stroke ratio is a simple ratio. If the rod is 5.7" and the stroke of the crank is 3.48" you have a 1.6379 rod to stroke ratio. In theory the higher this ratio the more power it makes. The reasoning behind this longer rod is more power comes from a couple of aspects. One; is that if you go back to basics of a simple machine the pistons, crank and rods are basically a compound lever. The up and down movement of the piston translates into rotational motion of the crank. In an engine, a longer rod can make more rotational TQ from the same piston force because it's a longer lever!

#44605 I have a d15b and I have a P05 Ecu I have the d15 non vtec harness on there how can I do it so I can crack V I don’t think I have the correct ECU to crack V, what ECU do I need and can I connect the Vtec to the ECU

#44616 you can use a P28 and then add the wiring just like you were doing a mini-me swap and you'll have vtec.

#44728 D16 is also a weaker engine because of the rod to stroke ratio.
The D16 r/s ratio puts way more stress on the big end bearings (crankside rod bearing), causing more wear than to a D15.

Expected lifespan (when driven hard) of a D16Z6's bearings is 180.000 to 200.000km, while a D15 can do about 225.000 to 250.000km.
And stay away from DOHC D16 btw, they suck even more, though of all D-series, they produce the best sound.

Exceptions exist plentyfull though :)

True, even a B serie can die...

But i think the D16 is the second strongest D serie(D15b7 ftw)
Look at mine, never expected for my D16z6 to make it this long under my punishment

#45727 Someone please hit me in the face with a 2x4 if I ever say "crack V" in all seriousness. (This time don't count)

One way to look at r/s ratio is how hard the piston pushes against the sides of the combustion chamber vs pushing up and down.

The D15B and the B17 have the best r/s ratios.
