#53163 cause a ton of blue oil burning smoke to be created? Just wondering cause i pulled the spark plugs tonight and they were barely on, like maybe finger tight. Anyway, oil was in the threads all the way down to the electrode and the valve cover gasket is leaking pretty good. I didn't think that this would be enough to create that much smoke but just thought i'd ask everyone if they've ever ran into this before I go and buy a new motor!!!

thanks!

#53185 it makes sense to me that it could cause smoke. I'd tighten the plugs up and replace the VC gaskets around the plug holes. Hopefully that stops the smoke. :thumb:

#53289 Get yourself a 1/4 drive torque wrench.

Check your PCV. You don't have a valve cover breather filter, do you?

#53358 just replaced the pcv tonight cause it was bad. As for the breather filter, no, there's nothing on the d15b7. I think it's just shot, runs really smooth though!!! you'd think a motor with bad piston rings would run like crap. If nothing else works, i am prolly going to do a leak down test on it and find out where its leaking from. Is there anything else that cause is it to burn a large amout of oil? I think in about 500 miles it burned about 1/4 - 1/2 quart of oil. The cloud of blue smoke it creates is insane. I have never seen that amount of oil burning and still have the car idle prefectly and revv up fast with no misses or anything.

#53365 that was the other thing i was going to look into. It burns the most smoke when i revv it high. I'd rather have that cause i'd be easier to just swap a new head on then have to pull the whole motor and everything. Besides, if it is the head, then it gives me reason to do all new gaskets on everything!!!
