#59824 ok people i dont know if this would go hear but this is more or less a painting question, what you paint your VC to you paint it and then sand off the areas u dont want painted or tape them off first and then sand. such as the lettering on the VC.

but to keep this in the single section, how do some of you guys feel about advancing your timing.

#59826 sanding the letters off after gets my vote.

What engine, what mods, and why do you want to advance it?

#59907 Blindly advancing the base timing w/out a dyno is a bad idea, particularly if you advance it past the high side of spec. Try the high side of spec on at least two fill ups and see if it nets you better mpg. Listen carefully for a sound like shaking pebbles in a cup.

If you have a programmable standalone engine management system, you can pick up some impressive "free" power by both advancing and retarding the timing under certain conditions. I was able to achieve 47.5 mpg freeway in part by advancing the ignition timing to about 40 degrees in the light cruise area of the calibration.

#60186 For the VC question, what my friend did was paint the VC first. Of course tape the holes, then after that get a flathead screwdriver and scrape the paint off the letters or sand them off. :thumb:
