#65272 I am Considering, getting a Staged Clutch. I drove my Friends EG Hatch with a built Ls/Vtec with a ACT Stage 4 Clutch, Which is basically an on/off switch. I know I don't want that.

I am considering a stage 2 or 3 ACT clutch. I wanted to know what you guys have used and recommended. I want to keep it Daily Drivable, However have a good clutch good enough to keep up with Weekend Racing unlike my Cheapo OEM Style clutch is doing.

#65274 I had a friend before who had a stage 3 clutch on his Integra, he said it was an "unsprung" clutch so I think that's what you meant by the on/off thing. He also told me that there are stage 1 or stage 2 clutches that are "sprung", meaning they're like our stock clutch. But that's what he told me, I have no idea for I didn't upgrade my clutch yet. :D

#65311 I have a 6 puck stage 3 and I daily drive my car, I absolutely love it I would never go back to a stock clutch. Grabs real well. Dont worry about stock axles they hold up fine for daily driving.

#65327 Ive been daily driving on a stage 3 clutch for about 6 years now. First with a D and now with a B. Stock axles the whole time. AutoX whenever it was there and agressive street driving on the back roads here. Stock axles handle the stage 1-3 clutches that I have had just fine.

The springs help absorb the sudden shock of engaging.

#65356 CLutch feel will be based on the pressure plate. The stiffer the pressure plate the stiff the pedal will feel.


From what I know, which could be wrong, The unsprung ones chatter more and generally make more noise. Not sure on that though as I have never had one.

#65379 Oh! All the while I was thinking that the sprung/unsprung thing was about the pedal feel as well.. I was messed up back there, I thought that with an unsprung clutch you need to pull the pedal back up when you shift. LOL! Silly me. :lol: Thanks for shining some light on this issue, Greasedmonkey.

Last question, for a beginner like me what kind of clutch upgrade would you suggest? The car will be a DD and/or for occasional track. :)

#65416 I was thinking either Stage 1 or 2 since I really have no experience driving a car with a staged clutch. Those lightweight flywheels make any differences too? And regarding brands I know ACT and Exedy are the most known ones, but are they good with the pocket? :D What clutch are you running? Brand/price/specs wise?

#65418 I'm runnind XTD stage 3 (6 puck sprung) with their 8 lb flywheel. I think I got the whole package for about $240 new (ebay)

I heard some bad stories about their stage 1 & 2 clutches on honda-tech, but a lot of people are using their stage 3 and I can't say I have had any complaints about the quality.

It feels like on/off compared to stock, but I got used to it. Everyone else who tries to drive my car stalls it at least once though lol.

Also I wish I got a 12 lb flywheel instead of 8 lb. I can really feel the car losing acceleration up slight hills. (it happens with lighter flywheels, you have to give extra gas or downshift more for inclines because the engine has less inertia with a lighter flywheel)
