The idea is to get/keep the sticker hot enough that it easily peels from the paint without burning the paint (really hard to do unless you hold the heat gun still and really close to the car). If there is any adhesive left you can use goo gone or lacquer thinner to remove it. Then wash that area to keep the chemical you used from doing any damage to the paint.

Harbor Freight usually has a cheap heat gun. Think mine was $9.99

Plastic razor blades you can find in the auto parts store, Walmart, home depot, lowes, etc... the good ones are usually orange in color.
