I'm sorry to hear about what happened, Katie. All the guys' points here are true, one was the "easy come easy go" idea. Relationships are complicated, and should be handled slowly.
I had this relationship where I courted my bestfriend in highschool for the whole 4 years we were in highschool, then we became bf/gf after for almost 3 years. I must say it was really worth it 'coz there was this 4 years or courting. And now I have this long distance relationship with this girl in PA that I haven't even met.

I know I'm crazy and stupid.
But my point is relationships come and go, it's up to you to make the best out of it. It doesn't have to do with your bf being a car enthusiast, a basketball player or whatever. You always need to have trust and understanding on both ends.
And about your ex, I think he is just not ready for the bf/gf thing. Any other reason than that, iunno.
Anyway, be happy Katie, there's lotsa people out there who loves you and it's way better than having a bf/gf.
