#81188 anyone ever put a d17 block into an EG and put a z6 or a y8 head on it?
im thinking of doing it.
the d17 has 9.6:1 compression stock so i figured it would be a little bit more low end torque.
anyone ever heard of anyone doing this or done it?

#81194 I am almost positive this engine is exactly like the DOHC ZC in that you can only use D17 parts on a D17 motor i do beleive there is a difference in the way the head bolts are arranged or something with coolant and oil passages but with all my studies I have not come across anyone trying to do this and i have come across ppl saying no it cannot be done.

#81211 You cannot put a z6 head on a d17. You can how ever put the d17a crank and rods into a D16 block.

Honda Tuning magazine did it - 'Stroke Your D With Junkyard Parts' was a couple months back though.. Was an interesting build, and it made some really nice numbers... seems to me it made 170+ NA horses. The project was for a guy who was into racing. the deal was you could run a civic with a b swap and change nothing, or run a d, take 500 lbs out of your car, and be able to tweek the engine to any length using stock d series internals and bolt ons... some guy in SoCal picked up a junked d17 and went to town. from what i remember he was competitive and it was super reliable too, even under race conditions, which was all that it was used as..

neat nonetheless..

#81852 Correct me if I'm wrong but the engine mounts on the D17 block are like the K series and so they aren't a direct drop in for an EG chassis.

My g/f has a 01 EX. What a great engine! D16Y8-like power, D16Y5-like economy. Going 80mph to Vegas we got 39mpg! And that was with the car loaded down, driver and 3 passengers + luggage.

Also it's COP so you don't have those persistent distributor/ignitor/coil problems that plague all the earlier Honda/Acura engines. The coils aren't the strongest in the world... but they work just fine on a stock motor.
