That is your personal opinion, and I (for one) disagree. If you are going for a good steady mid level power figure, a stock GSR (B18C1) is easily good for ~350fwhp. I know people who have done in this range and still managed to daily drive the car, and this was on stock internals (w/exception of a Cometic HG and ARP studs). If you want big numbers, it can really be achieved with any motor you care to put enough money into. Though it is not a common platform to start with, a local here had (at one time) the highest horsepower B16 in the country (I believe it was somewhere around 640/400). That was still use the B16 block with a displacement of 1.75. There is also numerous people using ITR longblocks w/boost and making huge numbers, both with stock internals and beefed up bottom ends. I can keep going on about each different motor, and each different setup, but ultimately it just goes back to one thing... how much money do you want to spend in the end, and how fast do you want to go?
And in case you don't know... high compression + boost = wet dreams. Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't boost a motor with more than 10-11:1 compression. Those people are just too pussy, and don't care to spend the money on fuel and tuning.
BTW, that was all a big ramble, so I have no clue if any of it makes sense, hahahaha.
Do me a favor, answer these questions-->
Is this your first swapped car?
Do you have another form of transportation?
How soon do you plan on building the motor?
Do you plan for boost before or after a build?
How much do you want to spend initially on the swap?
How much do you want to spend on building/boosting afterwards?
Personally, I say go with the B16 for now, and put the extra money towards an LS shortblock to start building on the side. This eliminated a lot of downtime for your car while you're building the motor, plus they are cheaper than the GSR blocks, and when both are built (assuming you properly run all the essentials for an LSVTEC setup), both will make great power numbers.
