D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By nickbrungard
#170187 Ok. A little insight into how i got where i am. The timing belt snapped on my perfectly running d16z6 engine with 205,000 miles(94 civic ex). So instead of messing around with the high mileage engine i would swap it for a lower mileage jdm d16zc sohc. Upon installing it i realised it had a terrible knock and was pilling up metal shards in the oil pan. Once i returned the engine to the seller they said they do not have another d16zc sohc to replace it with.(even though i called twice earlier in the week to confirm that they did) So i settled for a d15b and 100. cash back. I was told that the performance numbers are the same and the swap would be as if it were the original z6 engine. No need to modify or change ecu or anything like that. What is true and what is not and how do i know exactly which d15b i have? The block is stamped= HM D15b 2461600 and has a single vtec solenoid. Please help this will be the third time im putting an engine in this car and although i enjoy this kind of thing its getting tiresome.

#170227 Thanks. Kinda started to feel a little screwed over for a bit. Honestly i would rather a bit more mpg for a similar power. Just looking for a good solid driver.

#170242 Sounds like a good number to me. may be a stupid question but can i just get normal wear items like plugs, oil filter etc as if it were the stock z6 and whats the best weight oil?

#170253 as far as normal things like plugs wires cap rotor oil filter its the same as a z6 as for other parts like timing belt and water pump and oil pump im pretty sure its the same as a d15z1 not 100% sure somone else pipe in if im wrong
as far as oil goes its all in preference and where you live such as temperature and climate change soo for example i used to drive a toyota truck i used to run heavier oil for the winter and thinner lighter oil in the sumer as for my honda i run 10w30 penzoil whatever oil you choose for weight get penzoil its great
do you already have the motor in and running or you still working on the swap?

#170255 just picked up the engine today. Was planning on installing it tomorrow. If timing belt is dif then it may not happen unless auto parts store has one. What u.s vehicle could i tell them to use as a cross refrence for the parts? they wouldn't be able to search via the jdm engine could they.

there you go he gives you part numbers and everything

all block parts are same as d15z1 (except pistons rods and crank)
all head parts are same as d16z6 (except intake mani the jdm is missing the vacum line for your purge control valve you dont need it plugged in so no wiorries there)
