#270834 There doesn't seem to be much info on this motor. Just curious if I could swap the head with a b7 or d15b head just for fun. I never see this motor modded and I'm just curious if I could bring anymore out of it for pick your part cheap. Not looking for any suggestions on a full motor swap as I already have a B18 it just won't be in for a little while so while I wait i'd like to have a little more umph to rotate my long cx gearing a little better (merging is scary with only 60 HP and a tiny car). The stock head leaks pretty bad into the Sparkplug holes and causes spark problems sometimes. Ive already changed the valve cover seals so I'm guessing the head is warped, So it will be nice to replace it anyways, I'm just looking for a simple pick your part swap over. Don't really wanna spend more then $100-200 if possible and not to much crazy fab work. If not I wont worry about it then, and just wait till I finish the B. Although I really wanna see what I can get out of this motor with simple small mods just for fun.

Yes you can put a B7 head on that block. Bolts right on. Use the B7 cam gear and timing belt though. D15B is VTEC, so you would be into mini-me territory. For the price range you are looking to spend, I suggest the B7 head.

#270868 Theres actually a d15b in my local pick and pull it just doesn't have a valve cover idk if it has a cam gear idr. At least if its still there. Would any valve cover sit on the 15b head? Id need the ECU as well if I member the best would be a P28 or P06? or was it P08? Its been a while since I wanted a D15B :P

#270884 P06 for the D15b7 head and P28 for D16z6 head. You'll want the matching complete intake manifold & throttle body for the head you put on your D15b8 as well since the D15b8's is restrictive. I think the injectors may be smaller too (can anybody confirm?). You'll need to upgrade to a 4 wire o2 sensor for either of those ECU's as well.
And when you pull the head off, be sure that the pistons have reliefs for 4 valves. I've seen some that do and some that don't have them.

#270887 Mine have Relief's I have pictures of it. Mine also already has a 4 wire O2 sensor. I didn't want to go with a z6 head because if I member you have to modify the head gasket, I'm not sure though. Id prefer to be as easily done as possible with as little down time as possible. Although I do wonder if the d15b Pistons would fit in my block just bolt up. I member reading piston rings for those are hard to find though? Omg you should see my intake HAHA it's little, thinner then my form arm its about as thin as my wrist. I had read for the d15B a P28 would work as well.

Yeah get an intake for sure, even if it's a $20 ebay one your modified motor will thank you :thumb:

If your D15b8 already has a 4 wire o2, what ecu do you have? is your car originally a cx model?

I don't know about having to modify the head gasket for using a z6 head... I think the only extra step is removing the oil jet with a pair of pliers - takes a couple of seconds.
I wouldn't bother with the D15b pistons... You'll still have pencil thin d15b8 rods which will go out before a piston.
Also I'm pretty sure the JDM D15b uses larger bearings than the US D15b7 or D15b8 which means internals won't mix.

#270898 Yea its originally a CX CDM and to be honest I've never checked what ECU but id assume its the P03? Cuz the previous guy never modified the car and the previous previous owner left brake fluid in the glove compartment so I doubt she changed it... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I through a rod today..I beat the shit out of that motor REV IT ALL THE TIME and it burns oil like mad, I've checked the dipstick and it was bone dry before, I don't take care of it all when it goes it just gives me an excuse to upsize ..

#271147 So I found 2 complete D15B swaps one in a CRX and 1 in a EF at the pick n pull and was wondering if I should grab the head and ECU from one and drop it on my b8. What intake manifold and headers should I use? The manifold that was on there was funky looking.

#271237 Also what would be a decent price for a D15B head? What would be the new max rev (estimate) on my B8 block with a D15B head? Seems to rev limit at 6k right now, I'm worried about my smaller rods not being able to take the upped compression or higher revs and going kaboom. I know its not advised normally to reuse gaskets but for this application would it be ok since I'm not looking for any long term out of this motor. I can always change any out later if I need to. I read in your mini me teal that I'd need an ecu that matches the tranny I'm using, you also mentioned re soldering to change the tranny on the ecu, that's something I can do as I doubt ill find a ECU with Vtec for the cx tranny (vx ecu maybe?).
