It's not a good idea. The mods that work great on normal motors don't work so good on this lean-burn, low RPM cruising, low red line, 12 - 16 valve switching motor. The intake manifold, throttle body, and intake pipe are very small diameter so that you get more airflow at very low RPMs. If you throw an aftermarket pipe on there, you actually lose power throughout most of the driving range.
The Z1 is sort of the Type R of miles-per-gallon instead of power. It's been tuned to run at the ragged edge for max fuel economy. If you start changing things up, particularly with parts designed for performance motors, and you start to have problems.
The good news is that there's a growing community of fuel economy freaks that will gladly buy up your VX's stock parts. If you're looking for money to put toward your H22, try posting up your ECU, EGR controller, intake and exhaust manifolds, intake tube, engine and trans on ebay and/or gassavers.org. I got $100 for my ECU and I probably could have got more if I was stingy.
